I woke up this morning with the inevitable feeling of autumn. It was not the weather outside, nor the turning of the leaves (though the tree outside my house is forever the earliest to shed). It was really a feeling in my soul that summer was coming to a swift end.
And, so, unable to turn back the clock, I celebrated the last day of summer, surrounded by friends and family.
Now, I haven't talked about the boys up until this point, mostly because we've been busy with our own this or that. I mentioned one in passing in this post. There are two, to be exact: Eric the Great and Steven the Quick (also sometimes known as Steven of the Puppy Dogs). They're the closest thing I have to older brothers, and life with them is... always interesting, to say the least.
Eric the Great is my best friend. He's put up with me for years and years, and I've lent him shirts and let him play with my computer for almost as long. Most socially apt person I know. The ladies love him. I think it's because he wears plaid shirts with dress jackets.
But who knows. ;)
This one is Steven the Quick. My dog is crazy about him. He has weird survival kit items in his car. We argue about the expiration dates on air fresheners, and then astronomical anomalies that may or may not be of actually consequence. I consider him the Holmes to my Watson, and that's just the way it goes.
In any case, tonight was the family's annual "back to school because summer's over" banquet. Eric had to skip out, but Steven got to stay for the goodies and The Hunger Games movie.
They were Nestle Tollhouse. Jealous?
Not my favorite. But I heard they were good with sour cream.
Pigs in a blanket.
Yum.
Cheesesticks.
Ben and Jerry's Red Velvet Ice Cream- oh goodness. |
My favorite.
And the reading contest ended with the summer, and everybody did just fine. We ended with a bang, and that's what matters. Tomorrow it's back to waking up at 6:03 a.m. (with a major junk food hangover, I'll have you know) and getting things done.
But, you know, maybe that's an adventure in itself.
End summer, and fall begins.
